Meeting Minutes
The Newtown Cultural Arts Commission held a meeting on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, 7:30 PM, at the Newtown Municipal Center, 3 Primrose Street, Newtown, CT.
Members Present: Sharon Cohen, Jennifer Johnston, Ted Kreinik, Donna Mangiafico, Robert Rabinowitz, and Jennifer Rogers
Members Absent: Rob Kaiser, Donna Monteleone Randle
Auxiliary Members Present: Martin Blanco
Guests: None
Jennifer Johnston called the meeting to order at 7:35 PM.
Minutes: The minutes of the March 27, 2012 meeting were approved as written.
Officer Reports: Jennifer Rogers discussed posting information on the Connecticut Special Events Calendar. Jennifer will forward information to Martin for Flagpole Radio Café press releases. Jennifer Rogers also shared information about Thula Sizwe, an a capella singing group from South Africa, who can perform in May or possibly in September. Sharon Cohen will follow-up.
Treasurer Report: Donna Mangiafico reviewed the financial report. Donna will obtain price quotes for the Festival posters. Sharon Cohen will work with Donna Monteleone Randle to obtain price quote from Monster Marketing for printing the Sponsor Packets.
Newtown Cultural Arts Center: The subcommittee met and discussed the need for a performing/cultural arts center in Newtown. Jennifer Johnston provided surveys/data. It was agreed that the subcommittee must have conversations with the arts groups. Surveys will be developed (arts groups/artists/general public). The mission and goals need to be defined. Also, roles must be assigned. Jennifer spoke with AMS Marketing and Research who may offer assistance.
Programs and Events:
- Flagpole Radio Café – May 19th Show – The guest artist will be Elizabeth von Trapp. The bill for the February show from the Edmond Town Hall has not been resolved. The itemized invoice has not been received for the March show.
- Pre-show Receptions – The Alexandria Room is not available for a pre-show reception before the May 19th show. A small table will be set up in the lobby or outside if weather permits. It was agreed that the NCAC would organize pre-show receptions for the first and last show next season and leave the other shows to artists and arts groups.
- Arts Festival – Donna Mangiafico provided an update. Sharon Cohen will be assisting Donna Monteleone Randle write the “Talking Points” for sponsorship.
Grants: Discussion was tabled
Website: Sharon Cohen asked NCAC members to send her a “wish list” for the website. If there are particular formats, etc., let her know. Jennifer Rogers suggested moving the blog information to another page (not the front/home page).
